Villa Athina is located on a hillside overlooking the village of Agios Nikitas, a small resort situated on the northwestern coastline of Leykas island, behind a beach with white powdery sand and aquamarine water, guarded by twin towering headlands. Scattered valleys clothed with oak, cypress and pine trees break up the line of the rugged landscape.
This project is about an addition to an existing complex of villas. It has a private swimming pool, patio and balcony, where there is plenty of space to lounge and soak up the sun. Facing west, the sunsets on this coast are splendid, as the Adriatic Sea turns from gold to rose before finally changing to Homer’s “wine dark sea”. The stony volume of the building, in combination with the trusses of the wooden roof, provides a spacious accommodation with a unified living - dining - kitchen area, one double bedroom with its bathroom.
Both the masonry walls and the outdoor flooring were made from local stone. The swimming pool with its deck area are surrounded by a wooden fencing system to ensure the tenants’ privacy.
